The Races Ahead for 2019

When you train with fun people, it’s waaaaay less sucky.

With London in the rear view, it’s time to plot what other terrible things I do to my body this year and the countdown to Ironman Augusta is on.

The big theme for this year is focused on getting more comfortable in the swim portion of triathlons, with open water (OWS) being my biggest sticking point. That means tossing in as many OWS sessions as possible, including salt water even if it’s not part of any of my races.

For Charleston people, I would highly encourage you all to join us at Trophy Lakes every Monday at 6 PM, and then join on Sunday Funday at Sullivan’s Island for Swim+Bike+Run action.

Even during the local sprints I get some pretty nasty anxiety the day before, and with Augusta months away, it was hitting as soon as I registered. Right now I’m working through this entire plan, but with some modifications for longer runs and rides since I’m already ahead of the base level.

Here’s the plan of action so far:

  • June 8: Volunteer and She Tris Sprint Triathlon
  • June 16: Charleston Sprint Tri | Goal: Improve on time last year
  • June 29: Hartwell Olympic Tri | Goal: Don’t drown and die
  • July 7: Charleston Sprint Tri | No goal
  • July 27: Tri the Parks | Improve on Hartwell
  • August 10 (maybe): Chattahoochee Challenge Olympic Triathlon | No goal
  • August 31: Rock and Roll VA Beach 1 mile, 5K, and half marathon | Goal: run without personal music
  • September 29: Ironman Augusta (70.3) | Goal: Don’t drown and die
  • October 19: Rock and Roll Denver Half | No goal
  • November 2: Rock and Roll Savannah Half | Goal: 1:45
  • November 16: Rock and Roll Vegas Full | Goal: 3:55
  • December 7 (maybe): Rock and Roll San Antonio | No goal
